CERTIFICATION

The exam is the final step to get the certification. For each syllabi there is are exam rules defined (see downloads page).

Transfer of FL 2011 to 2018

The transfer from version 2011 to 2018 within STB is completed, that means:

  • There will be no exams offered anymore for FL 2011.
  • Exam repetition is only possible for same version of syllabus.
  • Exam repetition of syllabus 2011 will be possible until March, 31st 2020.
  • The existing Foundation Level Certificates (V2011 and earlier) will keep their validity.

Examination Process

There are two ways to take an exam:

  1. at a training provider directly or after the course
  2. directly, without prior training, at one of our certification offices. To do so, please contact one of our certification bodies (see bottom of this page).

The basis for the exam questions is the internationally standardized curriculum.

Foundation Level:

  • The exam is a written multiple-choice questionnaire that lasts 60 minutes.
  • At least 65% of the maximum number of points required to pass the exam is required.
  • The result can be found immediately after the test.

Advanced Level:

  • The exam is a multiple choice survey in written form.
  • The duration of the exam is based on the number and K level of module questions. If the candidate’s native language does not correspond to the examination language, the duration is extended by 25%.
  • At least 65% of the maximum number of points required to pass the exam is required.

Expert Level:

  • The exam is a mixture between multiple choice survey (25 questions) and essay questions (candidate has to chose two out of three) in written form.
  • The duration of the exam is 135 minutes (45 minutes per part). If the candidate’s native language does not correspond to the examination language (English), the duration is extended by 25%.
  • At least 65% of the maximum number of points required to pass the exam is required.

Prerequisites for exam participation

Attending the associated training with an accredited training provider is recommended.

However, the exam for the Certified Software Tester Foundation Level and Advanced Level can also be taken without attending the training.

The prerequisite for admission to the Advanced Level exam is the possession of the Certified Software Tester Foundation Level certificate and an 18-month practical experience in the testing area.
